The United States of Leland
Der 16-jährige Leland begeht eine unfassbare Tat: mit 20 Messerstichen tötet er einen behinderten Jungen. In der Isolierstation der Jugendstrafanstalt begegnet er dem Gefängnislehrer Pearl. Dieser ermöglicht ihm, ein Schreibheft und einen Stift mit in die Zelle zu nehmen, um seine Geschichte aufzuschreiben. Pearl ist jedoch nicht nur aus idealistischen Gründen an dem jugendlichen Straftäter interessiert, sondern sucht auch Stoff für sein eigenes Buch. Je tiefer er in die Vergangenheit des Jungen eindringt, desto komplexer wird das Mysterium um dessen Beweggründe.
