Torwart Josef Bloch beleidigt während eines Fußballspiels den Schiedsrichter und muss den Platz verlassen. Er bleibt in Wien, wohnt im Hotel, streift ziellos durch die Stadt, geht ins Kino. Bloch verbringt die Nacht mit der Kinokassiererin, die er am Morgen erwürgt. Er fährt mit dem Bus ins Burgenland, streitet mit Bauernburschen im Wirtshaus, versucht vergeblich, mit der früheren Geliebten ein neues Verhältnis anzufangen, verfolgt in der Zeitung die Fahndung der Polizei. Bloch besucht ein Fußballspiel, der Torwart hält. Bloch lächelt.
