Weil er in L.A. mit dem Gesetz in Konflikt geraten ist, wird der talentierte Tänzer DJ zur Verwandtschaft nach Atlanta abgeschoben, wo er an einer Uni für Afroamerikaner einen Neuanfang beginnt. Dort lernt er nicht nur die hübsche April kennen, er wird auch von zwei Bruderschaften umworben, die für einen Hip Hop Dance Wettbewerb trainieren. DJ entscheidet sich für die schwächeren Pythons - aber nur deshalb, um gegen Aprils eingebildeten Verlobten Grant, den Anführer der anderen Tanzformation, antreten zu können.
